Back in 2019 we organised a project to investigate the challenges for bikers in Amsterdam. A free card to work on a true consumer challenge. After spending time in the field and a ton of desk research we organised a design studio to brainstorm on new solutions.

Designing with freedom

For me, innovation is a license to create a solution that completely focuses on the user’s needs, without feeling distracted by the constraints of designing for a particular device or technology. What I often notice is that people in their eagerness to innovate, forget to look beyond the possibilities of innovation. Creating something with Augmented Reality or a voice-driven virtual assistant isn’t a goal in itself, it’s a means. In other words, designing is the freedom to dive into and empathise with the target audience, to find that specific solution which perfectly fits their needs. To raise the question why this obvious solution wasn’t there before. And yes, that can be done with AR or a voice-driven assistant.”
